BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments boast the ability to smooth dynamic wrinkles in the neck and face, creating a more youthful and rested appearance. Tired of a face that seems permanently angry, sad, worried or exhausted? Botox provides an easy, relatively painless, treatment to rejuvenate an aging face.
Dynamic wrinkles that respond to Botox Cosmetic treatment are those wrinkles caused by facial expression--smiles, frowns and laughter. Wrinkles that are visible when one’s face is still cannot be removed by Botox. However, Botox treatments can slow and prevent the further progression of frown and smile lines.
Even young men and women in their 20’s and 30’s can reap the rewards of Botox treatment through preventative care. Botox will prevent the formation of dynamic wrinkles, keeping young faces young for years longer.
Review the following Botox success stories to learn more of what Botox can do for you, your face and your confidence.
Botox Case 1:
As a nurse in her mid-forties, JS is beginning to feel her age. With some horizontal lines on her forehead that appear to be deepening and two straight, vertical lines above her nose attributed to frowning and squinting, JS could use a facial pick-me-up. She was evaluated at Earth & Sage Medical Spa and Botox was applied to her forehead to prevent deepening of the lines already present. Botox was also administered to the area above the nose. Three days later as the Botox began to take effect, JS mentioned that it felt “a little strange” as she could not contract those muscles needed to frown. She easily got used to this new sensation and was incredibly happy and satisfied with the result of her Botox treatment. JS now comes for regular Botox applications every 3 months.

Botox Case 2:
HJ hates to smile. At 30 years old, HJ thought that the crinkling at the corners of his eyes as he flashed his pearly whites made him look old. With a successfully career in sales, HJ knows how important a friendly smile is to his field. “A little crinkling is okay—I want to look normal and have some expression, but I really hate it when I smile and see a million lines there,” he said on his first visit to Earth & Sage Medical Spa. After the application of a small amount of Botox at the outer corners of his eyes, HJ is no longer self-conscious of his smile. At his follow-up visit, he was beaming. “My friends can't believe I had Botox because I don't look frozen. I love it!”

Botox Case 3:
DG wants to remain ahead of her competition. In her early twenties and an up-and-comer in the publishing world, DG knows the importance of appearance. Though DG currently has no permanent wrinkles, she wants to prevent them forming. Over the past year, DG has had Botox treatments regularly—and no one is the wiser. “My friends are spending tons of money on fancy skin creams and lotions. Even though they’re young, I still see some wrinkles forming on them already. I get Botox because it works and in the long-run, it ends up being more cost-effective.”
Botox Case 4:
FA credits Botox with changing his life. As an administrative clerk in his mid 30’s, FA has problems with overactive sweat glands. “It has been embarrassing. Sorry to be gross, but I go out on a dinner date at an air-conditioned restaurant and my armpits are dripping.” FA was treated with Botox in both armpits and now confidently states, “I feel normal. Botox truly changed my life.”

What to Expect:
After we have obtained a thorough medical history from you, a detailed evaluation will be undertaken by the doctor to determine whether Botox treatment is the appropriate course of action for you. If you are a viable candidate for Botox, the doctor will discuss where the Botox should be applied to maximize results. After the face is cleansed, Botox will be applied to the pre-determined areas on your face with a very fine needle. Many patients do not even feel the injection. Following your Botox treatment, we will remind you not to rub the sites that were treated. Beyond that, you will be able to resume all normal activities. The effects of Botox can be seen as early as one day after treatment, though most people notice results in 3-5 days. In other patients, it may take up to two weeks for the full effects of Botox to be noticed.
Risks/Side Effects:
As with any medical treatment, there are risks and side effects to having Botox treatments. You should not have Botox treatments if you are pregnant, breast-feeding, have a neuromuscular disease such as myasthenia gravis, or are allergic to Botox. Additionally, as with any procedure where the skin is punctured with a needle, Botox injections can cause bruising, swelling and infection. Such complications, however, are rare. Also rare are cases of Botox spread to adjacent muscles, accompanied by the risk of temporary eyebrow or eyelid droop.
How long does it last?
Botox treatments are not permanent but will last anywhere from 3-4 months. Some individuals have reported that their Botox injections have lasted up to 6 months. If Botox is used regularly as part of your skin care regimen, the amount of Botox used to maintain your youthful look may decrease over time and may last longer.
Cosmetic dermal fillers contour and sculpt the face by adding volume to smooth out wrinkles, fill in hollow areas under the eyes or cheeks and add fullness to the lips. Normal consequences of aging, such as fat loss, thinning of the face and sagging skin can all be temporarily reversed by the use of dermal filler injections.
Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of skin, acting as a sponge to attract and retain moisture in healthy skin. Aging skin, however, has decreased amounts of hyaluaronic acid, resulting in visible fine lines, wrinkles and coarse skin.
Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are typically well-tolerated and can last 8-12 months, depending on the area of face filled and the individual. Allergies to hyaluronic acid fillers are extremely rare; a skin test is not required. Restylane and Juvederm are examples of two successful hyaluronic acid-based fillers.
An exciting alternative to hyaluronic acid dermal fillers is Radiesse. This is made of calcium hydroxyapatite, which is a natural component of bone. As with hyaluronic acid fillers, a skin test is not required. Radiesse can produce dramatic results in the filling of nasolabial folds (the ‘parentheses lines’ on either side of the nose), cheekbones, cheeks and other facial areas. Radiesse is effective in filling in deep lines and facial wrinkles for up to a year or more.
What to Expect:
After we have obtained a thorough medical history from you, the doctor will perform a detailed evaluation and the appropriate dermal filler for your face will be ascertained. Treatment options will be discussed with you to ensure that all your questions about dermal fillers are answered.
After determining the best course of treatment, the face will be cleansed and the dermal filler will be injected into appropriate areas of your face. A very fine needle is used, making dermal filler procedures very well-tolerated. For those who are acutely sensitive or needle-phobic, a local anesthetic can be used to numb the face during the dermal fillers procedure.
If you have a history of oral herpes infection (“cold sores”), you will be given a prescription for medication to prevent an outbreak after the procedure.
At the conclusion of the procedure, you will be reminded not to rub the treated areas of your face. You can use make-up and resume normal activities the next day.
Risks/Side Effects:
As with all medical procedures there are risks and side effects that may occur. After dermal filler procedures bruising and swelling may occur that may last between 3-4 days, and possibly up to 7. As with any other injection procedure, there is a risk of infection, though this is very rare.
Case Study: DD
After losing a significant amount of weight, DD, who is in her fifties, is in fantastic health but dislikes that gauntness her face has taken on. Wanting a look and an increase in inner confidence that matched her health, DD opted for Radiesse to the nasolabial folds, the lines that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth, and in her cheeks. DD was thrilled with the immediate results of her dermal fillers procedure. She was even more excited to learn that the Radiesse filler results can last up to a year or more.

Chemical Peels smooth out the texture of the skin through special chemical formulations that remove the skins outer, damaged layers. Acne, wrinkles and uneven pigmentation can all benefit from the use of chemical peels. Additionally, chemical peels can remove non-melanomatous pre-cancerous skin conditions, soften facial scars, reduce or eliminate age spots and freckles, minimize the appearance of pore size and stimulate collagen production for younger, firmer skin.
It is Earth & Sage Medical Spa’s belief that everyone deserves to experience the benefits and preventative care associated with a chemical peel. Earth and Sage uses the innovative ViPeel, a specially developed chemical peel designed to address a wide range of skin types, including ethnic skin pigmentation which has traditionally had limited results with regular peels. Unlike chemical peels of similar strength, the ViPeel is well-tolerated and requires little ‘down time' so that normal work and social activities can be resumed immediately after treatment. The peeling process itself takes place over the course of 7 to 10 days.
What to Expect:
After we have obtained a thorough medical history and evaluation, your face will be prepared for the ViPeel. When the ViPeel is applied, some burning and stinging may be experienced, but will go away after a few minutes as the skin becomes anesthetized. After the ViPeel has been applied the face may take on a tan or reddish color. The ViPeel should be left on for 4-6 hours. Following the simple after-care instructions is also imperative to the success of the ViPeel chemical peel procedure.
Risks/Side Effects:
As with all medical procedures there are risks and side effects that may occur. Prolonged burning and stinging may be experienced after the peel. This is often attributed to the dryness of the skin as induced by the peel. The ViDerm moisturizer that is included in your peel kit will alleviate this sensation.
There is a rare risk of infection associated with chemical peels. In some skin types post-peel hyper-pigmentation may occur but can be treated with prescription strength skin care products. Skin will be more sensitive to sunlight after the peel, making sun-screen use a must during daylight hours. Do not pull off the flaking skin as this may cause scarring. Allow the skin to peel off on its own. As the skin peels away naturally you will be greeted by renewed and healthy skin that will have you glowing.
Skin Needling For Localized Fat Deposits (Chemical Body-Sculpting)
Lipolysis Skin Needling, also known as chemical body-sculpting, is a simple, non-surgical office procedure that destroys fat cells through a process of skin injections.
Nutrition and exercise are important in maintaining proper weight but fat-dissolving skin-needling can help remove stubborn fat on the abdomen, inner thighs and arms that are not affected by lifestyle changes. This procedure has also been used to effectively dissolve Lipomas (benign fatty tumors), and to correct unsatisfactory results from previous liposuction procedures.
Results can be seen in 8 to 12 sessions, depending on the individual, the area to be treated and the amount of fat to be removed.
What to Expect:
After we have obtained a thorough medical history from you, a detailed evaluation will be undertaken by the doctor to determine if you are a viable candidate for the Lipolysis Skin Needling procedure. If you are cleared for this treatment, a mixture of fat-dissolving chemicals and supplements will be injected into the fatty areas.
Redness and swelling of the injected areas are normal and expected reactions to the procedure. Some temporary itching and soreness, also described as achiness, may occur at injection sites. For some people normal activities can be resumed the following day. Most people benefit from avoiding heavy exercise for 1-2 days until the soreness disappears.
Risks/Side Effects:
As with any injection procedure, there is the rare risk of infection. Redness and swelling at the injection sites are normal and expected.

Medical Skin Needling For Rejuvenation
Medical Skin Needling for Facial Rejuvenation is a procedure that stimulates skin to produce new collagen and elastin to create a younger, more vibrant appearance. Skin Needling may also smooth out depressed acne scars and improve the appearance of stretch marks and hypo-pigmented scars. Skin Needling can treat the face, neck, hands and décolleté.
Since an ablative laser is not used and the epidermis remains intact, minimal downtime is needed to recover from the safe, Skin Needling treatment.
The effects of Skin Needling can last for years. Best results from Skin Needling are seen with 4-8 treatments and judicious use of sunscreen.
What to Expect:
After we have obtained a thorough medical history from you, the doctor will perform a detailed evaluation before you undergo Skin Needling. The area to be needled is cleaned and, if necessary, numbing cream is applied for 15 minutes. A very fine needle is then used to penetrate the skin to stimulate collagen formation. Often, vitamins and minerals are injected directly into the skin during the Skin Needling treatment so that these supplements’ antioxidant effect can be maximized.
Risks/Side Effects:
There are minimal risks of bruising, swelling and infection associated with the Skin Needling procedure. Most patients report almost zero downtime from a Skin Needling treatment. Earth & Sage Medical Spa receives many requests for Skin Needling sessions the day before an event to capitalize on the “glow effect” that accompanies the treatment.

Sclerotherapy (Treatment of Spider Veins)
Earth & Sage Medical Spa recognizes that “spider veins” or “maps” on the legs can cause a great amount of social embarrassment and self-consciousness to the sufferer. Sclerotherapy is a procedure that involves injecting a solution into the unsightly veins to cause localized inflammation. The inflammation then shuts down those veins, making the veins disappear.
This is a safe procedure because “spider veins” have formed as a result of collateral circulation due to a combination of genetic and lifestyle factors. The veins important for maintaining proper circulation to the leg are not affected.
Optimal management of “spider veins” requires anywhere from 3-6 sessions on average.
What to Expect:
After we have obtained a thorough medical history from you and the doctor has evaluated you, the area to be treated will be cleansed. A very fine needle is used to inject the “spider veins”. There is minimal pain associated with Scelerotherapy though some patients have experienced an occasional burning sensation. Conversely, however, some patients have fallen asleep during the treatment. Following the Sclerotherapy procedure you should walk around for 20-30 minutes. Bathing or showering with hot water is to be avoided. Warm or tepid water is fine. At the conclusion of your shower, cold water should be splashed on your legs. Sunscreen should be used at all times as sunlight can promote the formation of new “spider veins”.
Risks/Side Effects:
As with any injection procedure, there is the rare risk of infection. A possibility of minimal swelling and bruising is associated with Sclerotherapy. Some people may experience hyper-pigmentation (brown spots) at injection sites. Most spots will disappear by themselves within a year.

This radio-frequency device can be used to treat:
What to Expect:
After providing us with a thorough medical history, the doctor will evaluate you. If you are a candidate for the Lam Probe treatment, the area to be treated will be cleansed. The doctor will apply the Lam probe treatments and you may experience some burning or stinging at the treatment sites. If necessary, a topical anesthetic can be applied before treatment sessions. After the treatment, you should not touch or rub the treated areas. Keep the treated areas clean and free from friction and/or pressure.
Risks/Side Effects:
There may be a risk of infection to treated sites though this is rare. If not performed by an experienced practitioner, there is a risk of burns or inappropriate treatment. As with all other medical aesthetics procedures, the Lam Probe treatments should only be performed by a trained professional.
This painless, cold laser is the latest weapon in the war against fat. When used in patients, the laser stimulates the formation of a transient pore in the membranes of fat cells, causing them to be "leaky". Fat then leaks out of the cells and is cleared by the body's lymphatic and circulatory systems. The dramatic photos below are from www.myzerona.com , the official website for the Zerona Laser. They document the "deflation" of fat cells when stimulated by the Zerona Laser. The top picture on the left show the fat cells before treatment (Time=0).
The subsequent pictures show the fat cells at various times during the treatment (T= 10 minutes, T=15 minutes, etc.). The very last picture at the bottom right shows cells in the control group that were NOT treated by the Zerona Laser.

The procedure is completely painless (some people nap during their treatments) and safe. The FDA-approved Zerona treatment protocol requires a total of 6 sessions over a 2 week period. Each session lasts about 40 minutes. While it is a good idea to build exercise and healthy nutrition into your lifestyle, the effects of the Zerona laser are independent of dieting and exercise. In double-blind clinical trials, patients were specifically told not to change their diet or to embark on an exercise program while they were being treated. The average fat loss in the treatment group was 3.64 inches. However, when patients added a 30 minute walking program and healthy nutrition to their daily routine, the average inches lost were 9-14 inches!
Results from the Zerona laser are pretty impressive, as you can see from these photos (http://www.myzerona.com/results). The cost is $2600 for the entire 2 week treatment (6 sessions) and is significantly lower than liposuction which can range from $4000 for only 1 area of the body to $10 000 for multiple areas. Unlike liposuction, there are no side effects or risks with the Zerona Laser. Even more exciting is the news that the Zerona Laser may lower cholesterol levels as well and there are now ongoing trials to determine its effect on lipid levels. We also offer treatment packages of the Zerona Laser with massage to aid in lymphatic circulation, and/or acupuncture to reduce cravings and stress.
In summary, there is no ONE, definitive weight loss solution. Even patients who have undergone gastric bypass surgery or liposuction can regain weight after their surgeries. The Zerona Laser offers an effective state-of-the-art option for those who do not want to undergo such extreme procedures but need something to kickstart their fat loss, or those who are a healthy weight but are interested in body-shaping.
