Dr. Hui-Shien Loh’s mission is to offer her patients complete wellness by coupling healing therapies with state-of-the-art medical aesthetic procedures. Dr. Loh is a seasoned medical professional with over 10 years’ experience in both private practice and hospital settings. A graduate of Boston University Medical School, she completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, a Tufts University affiliated program, and served as Chief Medical Resident. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine. Dr. Loh is also an established novelist and choreographer, and over time, her artistic and medical interests converged in the field of Medical Aesthetics. After intensive training with the American Association of Aesthetics Medicine and Surgery in Beverly Hills, LA and Esthetic Skin Institute in Florida, she opened Earth and Sage Medical Spa to provide customized, professional aesthetics procedures in the Boston area.
“I first became interested in Aethetics Medicine after a friend of mine told me her story. She is a physician herself, a perky, vivacious woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer. After a year of surgery, chemo and radiation, she was cancer-free but when she looked at herself in the mirror one day, she felt she looked tired and blah (yes, blah is a medical term!). She just wanted to do something special for herself, a pick-me-up after all she had endured the year before. She decided to get Botox—and she felt (and looked) great with the results!
I was struck by her courage and her strength and found myself delighted for her that she was boosted by her cosmetic procedure. By this time in my life I was already disillusioned by much of the practice of medicine in the West. I wanted to help people embrace wellness, to feel good about themselves and to have the confidence and energy to live vibrant lives. It seemed to me that the proper use of Aesthetics Medicine would complement a healthy lifestyle and contribute to one's state of Wellness. At this point, I began my training and education in Medical Aesthetics and later opened my Aesthetics practice.
Over time, I found that Aesthetics Medicine allowed me to help patients look and feel better about themselves, and as a consequence of that, to adopt better, healthier lifestyles. I was astounded that patients proceeded to eat better, exercise, stop smoking, sleep better—all as a direct result of feeling better about themselves. I realized then that Aesthetics Medicine is not about vanity or being fake. It's about helping patients discover their full potential, allowing them to develop confidence and to take charge of their health. In the design world, the best aesthetics must combine functionality, economy and accessibility. Along those lines, I believe that a new approach to health care must address Medical Wellness in the context of functionality (internal), aesthetics (external) in an accessible and economical manner. In my experience, addressing our personal aesthetic and cosmetic needs is the first step in the journey towards a new relationship with the self. My goal at Earth and Sage Medical Spa is to provide the best in Wellness and Aesthetics Medicine at reasonable rates to patients.”
In her personal life, Dr. Loh practices yoga, dance, meditation and daily mindfulness living. Dr. Loh believes that a holistic lifestyle and a focus on wellness rather than disease, combined with state-of-the-art non-surgical procedures, are the best pathways towards a life of youthful well-being and vigor. Dr. Loh is currently a member of the American Association of Aethetics Medicine and Surgery.
Dr. Loh’s passion for her practice is evident in the quality of her care and concern for her patients. She is an inspirational coach and resource for health and healing in her patients. She is dedicated to her patients’ paths to wellness and committed to helping them reach their optimum performance in work and personal life. In addition, she has been an invaluable resource to other physicians by helping them find balance in their lives.

Elizabeth Lagerstedt, Licensed Medical Aesthetician
(Bio coming soon)
Karen Burg, Nutrition and Wellness Coach,
Reiki Practitioner
Karen received her training in Wellness Coaching at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (affiliated with Purchase College, SUNY). Trained by world-renowned nutritionists and holistic practitioners such as Dr. Andrew Weil, Deepak Chopra, Dr. Bernard Siegel, and David Wolfe, she is a Certified Holistic Health Counselor with the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.
In her early-thirties, while working as a high-powered financial services professional, Karen developed medical problems which resulted in frequent doctor visits and several surgeries. Appointment after appointment, the stress piled up and so did the weight. The things she once enjoyed no longer mattered and she slowly began losing her sense of self. Years of on-the-job stress coupled with her personal struggles led her to seek out a life coach who helped her realize that she needed to find that "something more" in life. Working with her coach, she rediscovered her life-long passion for nutrition and helping people and began training to be a coach herself.
Now, at age 37, she feels stronger, happier, and more alive than she did in her early 20’s. Karen thrives on helping others conquer their struggles and live their most vibrant and fulfilled lives through workshops and one-on-one coaching. She is a Reiki practitioner and is pursuing a Masters Degree at Lesley University in Holistic Health and Nutrition with a particular focus on women's wellness including (in)fertility, stress reduction, weight loss and control.
